Description:
We are seeking an experienced Exchange & Reporting Platform Technical Lead to support the design and operationalisation of the Bamako Convention Regional Clearinghouse Mechanism. The role focuses on translating policy and reporting requirements into a robust, user-friendly online platform and call-centre–enabled workflow that allows governments and designated national focal points to submit, validate, track, and access information on hazardous waste generation, movement, and management across Africa.

Key Responsibilities:

• Platform design & architecture

  • Design and structure an online exchange and reporting platform integrated into the existing Bamako Convention website (Drupal or similar CMS environment).

  • Define information architecture, data model, and metadata/taxonomy for country profiles, reports, notifications, and guidance documents.

  • Configure secure role-based access (Secretariat, Focal Points, media/partners, public) and private file storage for sensitive submissions.

• Submission workflows & dashboards

  • Design and implement structured online forms for annual implementation reports and transboundary movement notifications, including validation rules and review/approval workflows.

  • Develop country and Secretariat dashboards with filters, basic analytics, and data visualisation (e.g. status by Party, year, waste category).

• Call centre integration

  • Design simple, practical workflows to integrate third-party call centre outreach with the platform (e.g. call logs, follow-up tracking, and status fields linked to each country profile).

  • Specify and configure webforms or lightweight CRM-style interfaces for agents to record calls, outcomes, and assisted submissions.

  • Ensure that call-centre activities feed into reporting dashboards and support timely follow-up by the Secretariat.

• Technical coordination & handover

  • Work closely with policy and technical teams to ensure the platform reflects Bamako Convention obligations and reporting templates.

  • Oversee testing (functional, usability, basic security) and support user acceptance.

  • Produce clear technical documentation and contribute to training materials for Secretariat staff and national focal points.

Profile:

• Proven experience designing information portals, data platforms, or clearinghouse mechanisms, ideally in a Drupal or similar CMS/web application environment.

• Strong understanding of user-centred design for complex forms, workflows, and dashboards.

• Experience with data modelling, metadata/taxonomy, and basic analytics/visualisation on the web.

• Advantage: experience integrating or designing workflows for call centres, CRM systems, helpdesks, or citizen-reporting hotlines.

• Familiarity with public sector, UN, or international/regional organisations is a strong asset; knowledge of environmental agreements or hazardous waste governance is an added advantage.

Journalists Fellowship

Title: Journalists Fellowship on Hazardous Waste & Environmental Governance (Bamako Convention)

Description:
We are launching a Journalists Fellowship to support high-quality reporting on hazardous waste, environmental governance, and the Bamako Convention. Fellows will work closely with government focal points, the Bamako Convention Secretariat, and technical experts to produce verified stories and multimedia content that feed directly into a regional environmental information and reporting platform.

The fellowship is designed to strengthen transparency and public understanding around hazardous waste flows, national implementation efforts, and regional cooperation, while supporting countries to use the new exchange platform and associated call-centre outreach more effectively.

What Fellows Will Do:

• Produce articles, explainers, interviews, and short multimedia pieces focused on hazardous waste, transboundary movements, and implementation of the Bamako Convention.

• Engage with national authorities, focal points, and experts to verify information and cross-check data against official reports and notifications.

• Develop content that can be published on, or linked from, the regional information exchange platform, helping contextualise data and dashboards with real-world stories.

• Translate complex legal and technical obligations into accessible, solutions-oriented narratives for the public, policymakers, and affected communities.

• Collaborate with the multimedia and platform teams to ensure consistency of messaging and alignment with public-sector communication standards.

Who Should Apply:

• Journalists (staff or freelance) with experience or strong interest in environment, climate, governance, public policy, or investigative reporting.

• Demonstrated ability to produce clear, accurate, and balanced stories under tight deadlines.

• Experience working across borders, covering regional issues, or working with public institutions is an advantage.

• Familiarity with data-driven storytelling or the use of online platforms and dashboards in reporting is a plus.

Multimedia Producer

Title: Multimedia Producer – Short-form Video & Digital Content (Bamako Convention Platform)

Description:
We are seeking a Multimedia Producer to create short-form video and digital content that supports the rollout of a regional environmental information and reporting platform under the Bamako Convention. The role focuses on producing concise, high-quality videos and digital assets that explain systems, user journeys, responsibilities, and solutions related to hazardous waste management in Africa, including the new online platform and its call centre–supported outreach to national focal points.

Key Responsibilities:

• Produce short videos (30–120 seconds) including:

  • Explainer videos on how to use the reporting platform (e.g. how focal points submit reports and notifications).

  • Interviews with government focal points, experts, and community representatives.

  • Visual stories illustrating the impacts of hazardous waste and the benefits of better reporting and enforcement.

• Edit and package content for web, social media, and the platform’s media hub, ensuring consistency of look and feel across channels.

• Work closely with:

  • Journalists fellows to visualise their stories.

  • Technical platform and call-centre teams to accurately depict workflows, dashboards, and user experiences.

  • Government and UN/Secretariat representatives to ensure content is accurate, authorised, and appropriate for public-sector communications.

• Develop simple motion graphics, screen-recorded walkthroughs, or animated sequences that demonstrate how Parties and focal points can engage with the platform and call-centre support.

• Ensure all content adheres to UN-style communication standards, including accessibility considerations (subtitles, clear audio, legible text).

Profile:

• Proven experience in video production, motion graphics, and digital storytelling (portfolio required).

• Strong editing skills and ability to simplify complex technical or policy topics into engaging, short-form content.

• Experience working on development, environment, governance, or public-sector projects is a strong asset.

• Comfortable collaborating with geographically dispersed teams and integrating feedback from technical and policy stakeholders.

• Experience producing content in or for African contexts; ability to work in multiple languages (e.g. English/French) is an advantage.
